THE BOOKS

Since 2005 I have been writing, editing, re-writing and honing my skills towards the 9-12 children's book market.

Below are 3 of my novels.  Please click 'Read it' to sample the initial chapters.

The Dream Guardian

Every night Jack is visited by a mysterious White Lady in his dreams, pleading for him to remember and not be afraid. But what does it all mean?  What shouldn't he be afraid of, and what exactly should he be remembering?

When Jack inherits a strange old bed from a distant relative things start to become clearer as he begins to wake up inside his dreams.

But the trouble with a dream is that there is always a nightmare waiting patiently in the darkness.

Is Jack brave enough to battle against the nightmares? Who is the White Lady?  Why is the Darkness coming and why is it that he seems to be to blame? With the help of a few friends, Jack explores new realms, fights dinosaurs and hideous beasts, learns new powers and tries to find out 'who he is', and why it's up to him to restore balance to the world.

The Wind Whisperer

It's World War Two and young Freddie Burton is sent from his home in London to live in a small village in the country with a rather sad old couple, Polly and Jim.  Suffering from frequent panic attacks and bullied by the local boys, Freddie finds it hard to settle and after a time retreats within himself and becomes ill.

And it is in his darkest hour that the voices come; slow and rhythmically on the wind.

Who are they?  Why can he hear them?  And what do they really want?

Join young Freddie as he battles against the odds to find the answers to these questions, uncover dark secrets and become the hero his mother had always hoped he would be.

Mrs Mogsden's Letters

When Melanie awakes from her bike accident she finds her world has been turned upside down.  Her parents have split up, she can't fit in at school and her mind keeps on playing tricks on her.  Suffering from a form of epilepsy, Melanie can no longer concentrate for long periods of time and she keeps going into embarrassing 'trances' during lessons.

The butt of all jokes at school and without any real friends, Melanie turns to the ever popular 'bad' girl, Amelia Thrift.  If she can get in with her, maybe she can fit in with everyone else.

When Melanie attempts to impress Amelia and her gang by poking fun out of the elderly Mrs Mogsden outside the local corner shop, it makes her feel sick inside.  But encouraged by the girls' laughter, Melanie doesn't know when to stop.

Weeks of goading and teasing ensue.  From the old woman's misery comes acceptance and popularity for Melanie.

When Mrs Mogsden dies suddenly the realisation of what she has done dawns on Melanie.  What has she become?  And for what price?

And then, seemingly from the ashes, forgiveness comes from the most unlikely of sources.  Letters.  Dozens of them.

And with them comes the truth.  A truth that Melanie promises she will never, ever forget again.
